Child Development Major

After graduating in 2015 I completed my 1st semester at Northern Illinois University in the Nursing program and held at 3.5 GPA. Like many college students, I decided to change my focus and pursue a degree in Child Development. I realized that children and families was of special interest to me personally.

If I had not met Mrs. Shamika and got involved in the Lady All Stars program I would have been completely overwhelmed with preparing for college, applying for scholarships, and writing essays. She has helped me tremendously with a lot including personal issues. I appreciate everything she does for me and I’m glad she entered my life!

Public Relations – Marketing Major

After high school I left for Southern Illinois University where I am currently pursuing a degree in Marketing and Public Relations. While in college I have maintained a 3.5 GPA and been very involved on campus. Currently, I sit on two boards and plan an annual event on campus for women. I am an intern at Project Love in Carbondale as a Marketing Intern, I love this opportunity as writing newsletters, reaching out to sponsors for events and so much more hand on experience.

As a Lady All Star, I have learned ways to better myself. The program has taught me that it is okay to be myself and embrace who I am. KFACT helped mold me into a young woman. While in college, KFACT has always offered support and genuine support and of course the amazing care packages and so much more!

Social Work Major

After graduating from Auburn High School in 2014, I attended Rockford University full-time, majoring in Anthropology and Sociology while working full-time at PCI. I successfully completed a year at RU and have decided to transfer to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and major in Social Work where I will be graduating from in the spring of 2019 Being the first in my family to graduate is extremely important to me and I plan to live and work in Arkansas after graduation due to a job offer!

The Lady All Stars mentoring program was an outlet for me. It was a break in the day from classes to be around girls who were working through different situations in life. We could all support each other and let go even if just for one hour. We were able to ask the questions we really wanted without judgment and learn life lessons we didn’t get in class or home. I am thankful for the continued support I received from KFACT and the volunteers, the care packages were always the best, thank you KFACT for just being a consistent support for me and hundreds of other girls.

Education Major

I am currently attending Northern Illinois University after transferring from Columbus State Community College in Ohio. I am enjoying the transition from high school in Rockford to college life! I am pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education and plan to become a teacher for Pre-K through 2nd grade. I plan to offer my students the same support and love I receive from KFACT.

The mentoring program has helped me since I’ve been in middle school (before it was officially the Lady All Star mentoring program, a component of KFACT). Mrs. Shamika Williams has been phenomenal helping me with schoolwork and my personal life. I appreciate her and will carry her in my life forever.

Nursing Major

After high school graduation I transitioned to Clarke University on a basketball scholarship to pursue a degree in Nursing to become a Nurse Practitioner. I am finally graduating this spring 2019 and looking forward to working and living in the Rockford community! KFACT has been a continuous support system for me since middle school through post-secondary completion. During the summer before my senior year, I was given the connection to local leaders in Rockford through KFACT and was able to intern for OSF Saint Anthony which was a great experience. Mrs. Shamika helped me prepare for college life by providing dorm room essentials that I needed and every year I received a very much appreciated care package from the KFACT volunteers. I am very appreciative of the support from both Mrs. Shamika and the KFACT volunteers. The Lady All Star program helped me evolve and mature as a young woman and learn the tools necessary to navigate college life and beyond, thank you KFACT!
